A tool allowing users to compare any Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered home care, residential or nursing home provider is now available online at NHS Choices. The Provider Quality Profile allows users to search for local providers within an area and link to CQC reports and information about the provider.
The service is being extended and will allow providers to include key information about themselves including photographs of rooms, pictures of staff along with short biographies, plus information on services such as visiting arrangements, pets and visiting clergy
Latest survey by Care Quality Commission which asked people about their experiences of accident and emergency (A&E) departments in 2012.
Nearly a quarter of patients who arrived by ambulance had to wait more than 15 minutes before they were transferred to staff (one in 20 people had to wait for more than an hour).
33 per cent of respondents said they spent more than four hours in A&E – up from 27 per cent in 2008 and 23 per cent in 2004.
The majority of participants were also not told how long they would wait for their examination.
Carer Watch is campaign group for carers across the UK run by independent, unpaid carers with experience of the care system as it operates in the UK today. They consider it to be desperately under funded and not fit for purpose and aim to provide a non-party-political campaign platform to change the way that opinion-formers, politicians and journalists think about carers.

This short report by the Social Care Centre for Excellence provides evidence that the two main challenges for implementing personal budgets and direct payments for older people, including those with dementia, are „a lack of information about personal budgets and direct payments and a concern about taking on the burdens that direct payments can bring‟.

News of an additional £25m Government funding to improve maternity services coincided with publication of the Royal College of Midwifery's (RCM) 'State of Maternity Services' Report. The RCM showed that while there has been a turnaround in training and recruiting midwives there remains a big shortage as demand on services continues to increase. In the North West staffing continues to actually decline.
So the reported investment appears good news considering that in 2011 the General Sec of the Royal College of Midwives was quoted as saying that services were 'on the verge of collapse' and others had reported on the impact of NHS cuts on midwifery
However as much of the new investment appears to be yet again in hospitals it does to remember it does to remember that the big challenge in the UK lies in reducing stillbirth rates. While a study published last year comparing 2006 with 1995 concluded that survival rates for premature births are improving in the UK other reports indicate stillbirth rates remain high and have not improved.
that as one study stated , 'understanding the link between deprivation and preterm birth should be a major research priority to identify interventions to reduce preterm birth'.
